The propelsj Energy Consortium is an industry effort focused on identifying opportunities for local ICT companies to provide services, products, and support necessary to meet the demands of the multiple energy sector projects in our region now and on the horizon. The Energy Consortium is aligned with key organizations in Saint John such as the Atlantica Centre for Energy.
propelsj plans to encourage partnerships between the city's information and communications technology (ICT) sector and the booming energy sector. propelsj is an association made of companies in the ICT sector whose aim is to increase the industry's potential in the city.
As Saint John solidifies its position as the energy hub of the region, propelsj sees a unique opportunity for the ICT industry to develop and deliver local expertise and solutions by taking part in the large energy projects.
Virtually any ICT company has a possibility for opportunities in the energy industry through this activity. Not only can our companies work on projects here in Saint John, once projects are in place, companies would then have opportunities to work with these same partners on projects elsewhere in the world. propelsj's next step is to leverage the contacts they already have in order to engage members of the energy sector.
“Both propelsj and the Atlantica Centre for Energy have a focus on building our industries and creating opportunities for business in our region and supporting True Growth” said Stephen MacMackin, Chairman of the Board of the Atlantica Centre for Energy who addressed those in attendance at the Peter Buckland Gallery on December 5, 2006 when the Consortium was announced. “There is a great deal of good will and optimism between our organizations and around the opportunities we have in Saint John and we are happy to see this relationship advance.”
"We need to realize that we are dealing with organizations whose key partners have a global reach and that in many cases have strategic ICT partnerships already established before they even arrive in Saint John" said Richard Jones, propelsj Board member and Chair of the new Energy Consortium. "Our goal at propelsj is to present a consolidated industry voice to these large energy companies to help them understand our local capabilities and identify specific areas where we have unique strengths that can be brought to bear during the design, construction, and maintenance phases of these projects. Our longer term goal would be to leverage what we do in Saint John to bid on other similar energy projects around the world."
Moving forward, the consortium will continue to forge and deepen relationships with the energy sector and will also engage its entrepreneurial ICT base to develop opportunities to improve efficiencies in the energy sector that are not currently being satisfied with existing technologies. The opportunities are limitless and Saint John's ICT sector is in an ideal position to capitalize on the partnerships and support structures uniquely available on our home turf.
