Gene Fowler, owner of Fatkat, an entertainment company based in Fowler’s hometown will be in Saint John on Monday, February 11th to talk to young entrepreneurs about his experience building a successful animation company in Miramichi.
Over the past few years Gene has built a company that now boasts revenues in excess of 5 million dollars a year and has over 120 employees hailing from all over the world. His company has done work for many animated television shows including Family Guy and Carl Squared.
An honors student from the very first graduating class of NBCC Miramichi's Animation and Graphics program; in 1998 Gene was voted by Teletoon as one of the top ten most promising animators in Canada. Eight years later, Gene has lived up to that potential. He has worked in all spectrums of animation production; from a designer, animator to a director and editor. Most notably is his executive level experience as producer and director in the E-Learning, commercial and entertainment industries.
Gene has a long history of experience in operating animation studios and producing their projects. Gene served as the Executive Director of Animation for Trainingscape Studios Canada; an animation studio of which in 2002 he helped grow to be one of the largest Flash animation producers in Canada.
Gene is extremely passionate about building the entertainment and animation communities in Miramichi and in New Brunswick. He has received numerous accolades for his work including the 2005 Kira Award, 2006 CBDC Young Entrepreneur of the Year, 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and, the 2007 BDC Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Enterprise Saint John’s Emerging Entrepreneurs program is pleased to host Gene in Saint John next week. His story is inspirational and clearly shows the potential for entrepreneurs to succeed in international markets from New Brunswick.
